I have this incredible list of food blogs that I follow mainly for the photos, and it’s really been inspiring to me lately. So here’s something completely different from me, but there will definitely be more to follow. I have a friend who owns a boutique chocolate business, and I will be invading her factory in a couple of weeks. ;)

Zoë Keating in Seattle

I was in Seattle in the earlier part of the week for a conference, and, while searching for things to do while I was there, found out that Zoe Keating, an amazing cello player, would be performing at The Triple Door during my stay.

The first time I saw Zoe play was in Portland in 2007, where I saw her perform with violinist Paul Mercer. They had met earlier that day, and everything was completely improvised; it was amazing to watch.

This show in Seattle was Zoe alone, but every bit as impressive. You’ll notice a laptop sitting on the ground next to her, that’s because she records what she’s playing on the fly and loops it into whatever she plays next, controlling this all with pedals on the floor. The result is a single cello player creating an entire section’s worth of music, it’s amazing to listen to. She also performed a song while a woman performed aerial dance to the music.

If you ever have a chance to see this lady play, please go! I was expressing my hopes to see her come up to Canada, and it turns out she’s originally from Guelph, and is hoping to do just that in the near future.

Oh, and before I forget, The Triple Door is a fantastic spot. It’s a dining venue, and the atmosphere is perfect. I had a green chicken curry that was just to die for.

This last shot was taken on my iPhone with Hipstamatic. I asked if I could take a weird-artsy iPhone photo of her after she’d signed a CD for me, and she kindly obliged me.

Savana

I had an awesome shoot with Savana last weekend. We wanted to do something fashiony, but kind of unusual too. Those are real fish she’s wearing, the guys at the fish store at Fisherman’s Wharf thought I was pretty weird walking away with a bag of herring that I didn’t intend to feed to their resident seal, but hey…all in the name of fashion.

We also HAD to shoot her in the freight elevator at my studio…nobody can resist its awesomeness. ;)

Christine/Wonderland

Sometimes things come together perfectly, at the last minute. I knew Christine was coming to the studio in one of her amazing gothic lolita dresses, but my plan was just to shoot her on the white seamless background. I had a sudden idea a couple hours before the shoot to cover the wall in book pages, and what better for a lolita shoot than Alice in Wonderland?

Luckily, my paperback copy was the version with all the woodblock prints in it, making for a very interesting backdrop. :)
